As we continue to explore forms of poetry, we found creating Limericks was an exciting way to review syllabication and rhyming patterns. We created our 5 line poems following the distinctive pattern found in Limericks,added our own creativity and humor,and enjoyed sharing them with our classmates!

The Horse Named Dude
I knew a stubborn horse named Dude
instead of neighing he m-o-o-o-d
cows heard him, pushed him one day
and he slipped into the bay
he panicked and sunk and then kaboomed

There Was a Boy Named Jim
There once was a boy named Jim
He went to go play with Tim
They both went on a dock
And one of them lost his sock
And then they both bumped heads and fell in
The Respectful Knight
Once there was a respectful knight
Who loved to fly his kite at night
He went to his den
And was acting like a hen
The other knights kicked him out of sight
The Bad Bed
A silly old person named Fred
Had once bumped his head on the bed
He fell on his butt
And squashed his big mutt
And laughed hard as he held his head
Poor Ole’ Bob
There once was a fellow named Bob
He became a very big slob
He just got the flu
Didn’t know what to do
So now he lost his very nice job
A Kid Named Ted
There was a young not smart kid named Ted
He got ready to jump off his bed
His mom said no
His brothers said go
And Ted jumped off and cracked his head
My Neighbor Named Matt
I once had a neighbor named Matt
Matt was extraordinarily fat
When we were climbing a tree
He fell down on me
And then my body was flat
A Day At McDonalds
Now there is this guy his name is Jerry
He had to scrub floors that were scary
He is Gabby’s brother
But he is like no other
He wouldn’t have cared if they were hairy
A Man Or A Woman
There was a young person named Ann
And we found out she was a man
We called this person an it
Then it hit us with a mitt
After that she became friends with a can
The Poor Little Dog
Once upon a time there was a dog
Who accidentally fell in a bog
He did all he could and then made a wince
He has never been heard from ever since
And that was the end of little Zog
The Fellow Named Jan
There once was a fellow named Jan
He hit himself in the head with a pan
Jan’s parents took a pot
Hit themselves in the same spot
That was the end of Jan, Fran, and Dan
