A Perfect Persona Poem

I’d like to be an airplane so I could soar through an open sky

I wish I were a rainbow so I would have a pot of gold

I prefer to be a letter so I could create a lot of words

I want to be a TV so I could entertain someone

I select being a pencil so people’s imagination could blossom on a piece of paper

I choose to be a fish so I could swim in the deep ocean blue

I’d elect to be a volcano so I could have my own island

I desire being a bear so nothing would get in the way of my path

I’d approve being a tree so nothing would look down on me

I’d appreciate if I was a goose so my journey would never end

I endorse being a carnival so I could give thrill to someone’s life

I’d understand if I were a lighthouse so I could light someone’s way

I’d esteem being a beaver so I could live in an underwater home

I regard being an eraser so I could correct a mistake

I’d respect the idea of being a star so I could twinkle in the dark void of the night

"A persona poem is a poem written in the first person, in which a writer imagines him/herself to be an animal, an object, or a famous person - anyone or anything she or he is not."

We each prepared a 15 line poem, choosing an animal or object for each line, and explained why we made those choices. We continued to make good use of the resources available to us, relying on our ever-expanding vocabularies and a Thesaurus to replace the word "like", in verb form, with some very interesting synonyms! We hope you enjoy our creative perspectives!

Oh I Wish

I would like to be a radio so everyone can hear my beautiful voice

I’d adore being an alarm clock so I can shout at people to get up

I’d dig being an eraser so I get head massages IN SCHOOL

I’d absolutely love to be a T.V. because the spotlight's on me

I’d fancy being a backpack since I’d get carried around

I’d prize being a grill because I’d get a chance to taste the food before everyone else

I’d savor being a clock so I’d never be late

I’d appreciate being a globe so I can spin round and round

I’d relish being a recorder so I can copy people without them getting mad

It would please me to be a sneaker so I can get free gum

I’d desire to be a cop so I can get delicious donuts

I’d admire being a slimy octopus so I would always have ink for obnoxious homework

I’d esteem being a wimpy chicken so it’s OK if I don’t do a dare

I’d cherish being a tree so I can tower over bullies

I’d approve of being buttery corn so my jokes fit

I’d like to be a Peregrine falcon, so I can fly high

I’d love to be a Goblin shark, so I can roam the seas

I would like to be a road so I could help travelers find their way

I would wish to be a squirrel so I could have a home in a tree

I would incline toward being a piney tree to make oxygen and get rid of pollution

It would please me if I were a golden eagle to fly above the clouds

I would prefer to be a robot so I could build machines

I would like to be a solid rock because I can sit around all day

I would rather be a snake so I can protect myself with venom

I would enjoy being a zebra because I would have beautiful fur and stripes

I would like to be the round Earth, to give all 6.5 billion people a comfortable home

I would enjoy being a really good book, to be read cover to cover over and over again

I would prefer to be a smart computer, to know everything in the whole wide world

I would want to be a nice sailboat, to sail the whole 7 seas wide

I would like to be a bouncy basketball so I can get kids to play
