Powerful Personification Poems
Written by Mrs. Dingman's 5th Grade
February 2009
Figurative language creates clear and compelling images. We chose an emotion to personify, giving human qualities to feelings we may have. We wrote with insight and creativity, demonstrating our understanding of the power of personification.
Ahhh, but we weren't done... We searched online for a graphic image to compliment the emotion chosen for our poem, making excellent use of the technology available to us in the classroom! Enjoy our poetry!

A Chaotic World
I saw chaos clearly
He was hyper and crazy
He turned and the disaster engulfed him
I saw his evil skin and flashing eyes
And heard him throw the world into war
And I felt the hyperactive zombies attack the world
This Is Why You Should Listen To Mrs. Dingman
I saw curiosity clearly
She was nervous and shaky
She turned and said, “I didn’t study for my test”
I saw her perspiring hands and fidgety feet
And heard her feet jumping around when she got her test back
And I felt like I knew what she got on her test and she was very lucky
The Furious Fellow
I saw furious clearly
He was huge and red
He turned and started stomping toward me
I saw his muscular arms and fiery face
And heard him yelling to get out of the way
And I felt like I was going to be pulverized
Love
I saw love clearly
She was sheepish and crimson
She turned and wondered aloud who that cute boy was
I saw her flashing-white smile and thumping heart
And heard her say ‘’ Hi, um, I’m from uh… Ireland…Bonjour!’’ in an embarrassed tone
And I felt EMBARRASED too, oh wait, another emotion!
Sadness
I saw sadness very clearly
He was gloomy and miserable
He turned and tossed in his bed
I saw his depressed expression and sad eyes
And heard him mumbling under his breath
And I felt like the sadness was contagious
The Saddest Day
I saw sadness clearly
He was glum and down
He turned and found out his uncle died
I saw his throbbing face and his white cheeks turning red
And I heard him banging, jumping, and punching like he was on a rampage
And I felt the pain roll right over me like a bolt of lightning
Surprised
I saw surprised clearly
She was amazed and joyful
She turned and blushed like a ripe tomato
I saw her little freckles and rosy red cheeks
And heard her laughing and jumping all around, pleased
And I felt really weird but I was surprised!
Sadness
I saw sadness clearly
She was sorrowful and unhappy
She turned and cried like a baby
I saw her brown eyes and long hair
And heard her pout from a mile away
And I felt so bad that I could not help
